S’Express in Dylan Jones’s Shiny And New Book

Shiny And New (Ten Moments of Pop Genius that Defined the ‘80s) by Dylan Jones is out 8th July! The book’s chapter on 1988 and The Second Summer of Love has ‘Theme from S’Express’ as that year’s moment with a brand new interview with Mark Moore.
This Monday 26th July at Rough Trade East at 6pm, Dylan Jones will be discussing Shiny And New. He will be chatting with journalist Laura Barton and Mark Moore whose S’Express are the subject of one of the chapters in the book.
Dylan’s contention is that musically, at least, the 1980s was a more inventive decade than the 1960s. Up until the 1980s, music had always been linear, but then all of a sudden – largely driven by technology – music became atomised, and the whole decade became kaleidoscopic. Don’t agree? Feel free to come along and have an argument!

Mark E Smith loves S’Express and we love Mark E Smith!
While we’re on the subject of magazines: Gotta love Mark E Smith!
This is from The Ultimate Music Guide The Fall – which came out a few months ago where Mark E Smith sings the praises of S’Express. Missing Mark E Smith so much. There will never be another like him.

Mark Moore Is A Doll!
Lastly Mark Moore has had a doll made of him by artist John Lee Bird!
He’s 13 inches tall, one of a kind hand-sewn, felt and wool, with beads and fabric paint. Part of a lockdown sewing project making iconic artists in doll form. We love it!
