Mark Moore – Outlaws: Fashion Renegades of 80s London

The Outlaws: Fashion Renegades of 80s London exhibition is on now
at the Fashion and Textile Museum (London SE1 3XF).
Showing from 4 October 2024 to 9 March 2025.
I’ve been once already and I can’t wait to go back again.
It’s really that good!
I have loaned them some clothes from my archive by John Crancher and Sybil Rouge.
There’s even a mannequin that they have made to look EXACTLY how I looked back then. It’s like looking into a mirror.
Plus the spotty jacket from the S’Express Original Soundtrack album cover is there.
Also in the show is the David Cabaret ‘bumps’ outfit
which is the same one he wore in my S’Express Hey Music Lover video.

Over 80 people have searched the darkest recesses of their closets
to find their clubbing outfits from the 80s for this show.
There are stunning looks by
Leigh Bowery, Pam Hogg, BodyMap, Rachel Auburn,
John Crancher, Red Or Dead, Dean Bright, John Galliano
and many, many more which are all on display.
There’s also a recreation of the dance floor at Taboo nightclub
along with a Leigh Bowery room.
Finally, many of these pioneering designers are getting the long overdue credit that they deserve.
Curated by Martin Green & Nj Stevenson
who were helped by David Cabaret (amazing mannequins) and James Lawler.
Don’t miss it!

PS There’s a book too: Outlaws: Fashion Renegades of Leigh Bowery’s 1980s London.
I wrote a short article of recollections in it and there’s a new portrait of me by Claire Lawrie. I’m wearing some of my old clothes which I managed to squeeze back into.
The book launch is at Rough Trade East on Tuesday, November 5th at 7PM.
There will be a panel talk with moi Mark Moore (producer, DJ, S’Express), Rachel Auburn (fashion designer,
DJ and music producer) and Roy Inc (model and musician)
in conversation with interviewer Will Hodgkinson.
Maybe see you there!
Don’t forget, as Leigh Bowery once said, ‘Dress as though your life depends on it….’
