Mark’s fave mix of this is the William OrbitSpatial Expansion Mix’ which he also cites as ‘possibly one of his fave remixes ever’. Mark tracked down William, his favourite producer at the time, to do a remix for ‘Hey Music Lover’ and was so thrilled with the result that they ended up working together on the next S’Express single ‘Mantra For A State Of Mind’ along with numerous remixes for the likes of Prince and Malcolm McLaren.

William did a mammoth, three days with no sleep, session on the ‘Spatial Expansion Remix’ and ended up with tons of amazing sections as yet unedited. A frazzled William then rang Mark and played him all the bits down the telephone and the two of them then edited the thing together over the phone!

The third UK 12″, the Philip Glass mix, titled The Glass Cut [LEFT L30T] came with a special plastic wallet which housed all three 12’s of the trilogy.

The Miller Mash Glass Smash (available on the UK CD) also came as a one-sided promo only white label 12″[LEFT X30T]. This is a supremely insane mix by William Orbit from the remixes of Philip Glass with Kurt Munkasci and Daniel Miller. The CD says “Desperate Dan & Chillin’ Phil ripped to shreds by Raging Bill”. It even includes a snippet of Daniel Miller’s ‘Warm Leatherette’ (“see the breaking glass”). Released later on vinyl as the b-side of UK 12″ Mantra For A State Of Mind (The Baby Ford Experience) [LEFT X35T]

The US CD came in one of those long display, waste of a tree, packets. With all its mixes it was affectionately known as the S’Express Endurance Test. US mixes have a couple of extra lines sung by Billie Ray Martin that never made it onto any of the UK mixes (“I just want to sing to you ’cause playing bad is hard to do”).

Happy Happy S’Express was a secret track at the end of the b-side of the second UK 12″ Hey Music Lover (Spatial Expansion Mix). It featured Mark Moore and Mark McGuire singing under the influence of helium gas and playing with children’s toys. So business as usual really.

Mark is unable to recall a US 7″ but he is unable to remember what he had for breakfast let alone whether one exists. Neither myself nor Mark have an American 12″ of Music Lover so please feel free to send in any spare copies!

Note change of spelling from S’Express to S’Xpress. Radio interviewers would ask “…so why did you drop the E?” and the band would burst into uncontrollable laughter.
